The many ways to gift to the Norwalk Catholic Schools...
Gifts can be made any time of the year
“Friends for the Future” Annual Fund Drive
The Annual Fund was established in 1991 to build a solid foundation of committed supporters.
Their vision for this foundation was to build a strong annual fund campaign that would offer our
community many ways to get involved and contribute to the success of our Catholic schools. Your
gift this year to the “Friend for the Future” Annual Fund Campaign will benefit student
sponsorships and support classroom needs such as; new desks, improved equipment, and classroom
curriculum and technological enhancements.
Student Sponsorship
Reverend Arch Thomas, former superintendent of the Toledo Diocese, said in a speech, “How much
good will go undone if we fail to educate one child in Catholic education?” It is our mission to
assure that no child is denied this education because of financial circumstances. Until the late
1960's, there was no tuition charged at the Norwalk Catholic Schools. In the early 1970's, a book
fee was charged and then a small tuition. In the early 1980's tuition was approximately $200 at the
elementary schools and $350 at the high school. Today, high school tuition is $2,340. A gift made
to support a student’s Catholic education, regardless of the financial burdens of the family, is
the greatest gift of all. Do you know which child will leave our schools and transform the world?
The Norwalk Catholic Schools Endowment Fund
The Norwalk Catholic Schools Endowment Fund was established in 1999. Over the years, the
endowment has grown through the Legacy Grows campaign, personal visits, and annual fund donations.
Today the endowment fund has grown to $2.8 million. The money is given to St. Mary and St. Paul
schools to enhance teachers’ salaries. In 2003, $100,000 will be given to our schools to assist in
paying our teachers a competitive wage. Attention to just wages for parochial school teachers has
been a goal of the Endowment Fund.
Norwalk Catholic Schools Teacher Education Scholarship
The Norwalk Catholic Schools Teacher Education Scholarship was established to enable qualified,
faith-filled, students to pursue their dream to teach at the Norwalk Catholic Schools. Recipients
of this scholarship will make a commitment to teach at one of the Norwalk Catholic Schools upon
graduation from college. They will teach one year for each year they’ve received the scholarship.
This four year scholarship provides $5,000 per year towards tuition and college costs at any
college or university. The scholarship is available to any graduating senior with a grade point
average of 2.5 or higher. He or she must have actively participated in the Christian community,
caring for and serving other and must be committed to pursuing a career in education and teaching
at the Norwalk Catholic Schools.
The Kathleen E. and Charles P. Amato Endowment Fund
The Kathleen E. and Charles P. Amato Endowment Fund was established in memory of Kathleen and
Charles Amato by the Amato family to provide financial aid for students attending the Norwalk
Catholic schools. Earnings from this fund will be awarded annually to students based on financial
need.
Leo and Martha Smith, Jr. Family Endowment
The Leo and Martha Smith, Jr. Family Endowment was establhed by Leo and Martha Smith to
encourage family gifting to the Firelands Catholic Education Development Office for the purpose of
preparing quality teachers for the Norwalk Catholic Schools. Currently the principle amount of Leo
and Martha’s donations is invested along with other FCEDO endowment funds to benefit the Norwalk
Catholic Schools Teacher Education Scholarship. This scholarship enables St. Paul High School
graduates to pursue their goals as a teacher with the Norwalk Catholic Schools.
